Re: How to migrate data from proof of concept to next stage in System Development Lifecycle?

Currently migration of data betwen two 6.x instances is not supported and it's no tool to do that.

You might consider to expand existing cluster adding new nodes with medium size and than decommission old nodes. That is also something that is not in the GSS approved list but technically it works and as son as you bring your cluster back to include nodes with the same size you should be on the safe side.

In the job manager, the status detail show operation timeout and I also found download Linux Agent file(CMAgent.5.8.2.Linux) very slowly to target machine. It is almost need 1 hour.

I would suggest following:

1. check if installed agent can communicate with vcm collector (try to collect machine info) and port 26542 is opened from the collector to the agent machine

2. increase timeout value for the job.

Thank you for your reply~~

I am sure the collector can communicate with target machine and the target machine's firewall was been stopped.

In addition, I can find temp file in target machine path '/temp/'.

I also changed the timeout setting as below screenshot, but it did not work.

Is it a correct setting? If not, could you teach me how to increase timeout value for install linux agent?

Thank you!

Data Retriever is not initialized yet. Please wait..

I have recently taken over a vCenter instance, where a lot of items are either half-implemented or implemented but not documented. One of items is a vRealize Operations appliance. When I first came upon it in vCenter, it was showing a corrupted disk. I was able to rebuild this, and get the machine to boot, but the Web UI comes up to the login screen and then sits at the message Data Retriever is not initialized yet. Please wait.. and never moves. Doing some research, I came across a couple of KB's:

Unable to connect to vRealize Operations appliance (2000208) | VMware KB

Cluster Status is stuck at Going Online in VMware vRealize Operations Manager 6.0.x (2106950) | VMware KB

Unfortunately, neither of these resolve the issue. Just curious if anyone has ever run into this issue, or has any suggestions. As I mentioned, documentation is scarce, so I would very much like to avoid having to redeploy completely (even though they have not been collecting any data up to this point anyway).

The only time i get this is if the cluster is not fully online.

Log into the admin GUI and make sure all nodes are online and displaying the number of metric. If it is sitting at waiting for analytics then that will cause your error

The below is the admin GUI with it waiting. This will cause the status you are getting on the UI GUI

vap waiting.png

It will look like the below when fully online

Greetings!

Replying on a quick thought and based on the information provided in your query-

Do you know if the vROps IP was changed? If yes, please go through:

Change the IP address on a vRealize Operations Manager 6.0.x single-node deployment (2108696) | VMware KB

Or

Changing a vROps System's IP Address - VMware Cloud Management

Or

http://www.virtualizationhowto.com/2015/05/change-vrealize-operations-manager-6-01-appliance-ip-address/

Let me know how it goes.

vROps version compabitility

I'm running ESXi / vCenter 5.5.  Can I install the latest vROps version and will it be fully compatible?  Will the licensing on my existing 5.5 environment cover the latest vROps version?

What ever licences you are using they will need to be upgraded in the vmware portal. eg the 5.8 vrops licences will not work with 6.x vrops and the 5.5 vcloud suit licence will not work with 6.x vrops

6.x vrops will run and fully supported with vsphere 5.5

Thanks for the suggestion, that is exactly what is happening. I logged in and the cluster (only the 1 node) was at "Failed to Start". I hit Bring Online, and now it is sitting at "Waiting for Analytics".

You'll want to disable the symptom that applies to ALL instantiations and re-create symptoms to every mount point other that D:. It's a pain, but  you symptom criteria can either be for all instantiation or ONE instantiation. If you want to exclude one instantiation, you need to specify every instantiation OTHER than the one you want to include. There are a number of VMTN threads on the specific steps.

Re: Is vRealize Operations for monitoring virtual machines and Services

1-yes 2-no, it also does capacity planning and automated remediation and workload placement. 3-everything vCenter monitors, but that's just vCenter data sources. We can ingest data from other sources as well, such as storage, server hardware, etc, which build hierarchies and topologies within vR Ops to allow correlation of events, alerting, etc. 4-it can monitor physical servers as well, by virtue of EPO agents and/or ingesting data from another 3rd party management pack or middleware solution.

Change the subject line of vROPs 6.3 email

$

Hi All,

The environment that I'm currently working in has a classification system for emails. It basically means that all emails must have [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED] in the subject line of the email or it is dropped.

Is there a way to edit the email subject lines in vRealize Operation 6.3 alerts and notifications to append [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]?

I have seen an earlier post (vROPS 6 customizing email alerting) which doesn't answer the question, and I have read the KB (Using custom email templates in VMware vRealize Operations Manager 6.x (2125759) | VMware KB) is a clunky method about building custom templates but with much less granularity and doesn't fit with what I want to do.

Thanks,

heatmap to show average latency for the past time period eg month/week/day

Hi All, I am trying to get a heatmap view of average latency for datastores for a the past period of time, importantly I need the average over that period of time (to make things look better :) ). From what I can see in the widget there isn't anything there to select time period. An example is in the top 10 widget that lets you select past period and averages the results for that period (as far as I know its an average). thanks...

If we manually install the Unix agent, It can work, so this port is normal.

The collector  is in same subnet with Linux machine. Why is it so slowly?

Has anyone experienced the before? I have everything setup properly and collecting as well. I created a separate group of VMs to include their separate policy and they generate grayed out badges with question marks. Any suggestions?

I would say It depends on the environment you have. Some management packs don't support vSphere 5.5 and hence you would not be able to use some of the vROps features with vSphere 5.5 environment. It would be great if you can upgrade to at least vSphere 6.0 u2.

Hope this is helpful. Thank you.

Hi,

same here.

Anything new to that issue? Seems not that it is an performance impact, but it is rely annoying.

We opened an SR and the support pointed us towards some firewall rules...

i'll give an update as soon as i got something new.
