what is the "recommended size (Core(S)) metric for an ESXi host?

this metric recommends 7 cores on a 16 core ESXi host where I see CPU scheduling problems. Does anybody know what the metric means? Is there any usable list of metrics?

The built-in Stressed VMs Report might be a good place to start.

I'm pretty sure the default time is 30 days as you seen when you first enable the override for the policy.  You can adjust the number of days up or down as needed.

vROPS 6.0.1 - SMTP template mods?

$

Greetings,

Anybody know where to go to modify the SMTP template? Specifically we'd like to eliminate some of the variables in the Subject line so it is easier to recognize the problem.

Current subject line looks like this: "[vRealize Operations Manager] new alert  Type:Virtualization/Hypervisor, Sub-Type:Availability, State:critical, Object Type:HostSystem, Name:esxihost.com"

We'd like to insert something more valuable like system name, symptom Name

Thanks

vROPS Horizon Desktop Agent and WmiPrvSE.exe high cpu

We're running v6.1.0 of the Horizon View Agent which has the vRealize Operations Manager agent built in.  With the "VMware vRealize Operations Horizon Desktop Agent" service running we're seeing 4-10% CPU usage (our VDI sessions are two vCPU's) from WmiPrvSE.exe.  Using Process Monitor the process is constantly trying to access the C:\Windows\System32\tzres.dll file which looks to pertain to the time zone setting of Windows.  When the service is disabled WmiPrvSE.exe goes away and CPU goes back down.  Anyone have any thoughts on what the heck is going on?  This is way too much overhead for a monitoring tool and looking to just remove all together.  We've had this issue from the start (running vROPS 6 within our View 5.3 environment prior to upgrading).

Thanks,

Travis

The recommendation doesn't make sense for SQL database VM

I set my SQL 2008 VM to 4GB. Nothing really running on it except a empty vCAC IAAS database.

vRCop recommends add vRAM to 18GB.

Remediation.PNG

But if you see my memory utilization on Windows level, it's only 1.xGB.

Does anybody know what's going on there?

I'm using vSphere 6.0 and Windows 2008 R2 VM.

Re: Auto tab change for custom dashboards

Hi Rangga,

I ran into the same issue yesterday. I noticed that only my first 25 dashboards were listed in the reorder/autoswitch panel. For some reason they forgot to add a next page control or something like that. What I figured out is that a good solution was to create a group for my NOC users. These users would only have access to the few dashboards that I had created for NOC purpose (less than 10). Then when I relog to vROPS with that user it only sees the dashboards assigned to that user. After that it's a piece of cake to configure the autoswitch option.

I hope it helped,

Pierre

Hello,

Actually, it wasn't disabled, it was just set to use default values. When you "enable" this set of parameters, it just allows you to modify default behavior.

The policy you are using is a child of another one and inherited all its parameters you can override by enabling the parameter set.

Default is 30 days, as previously mentioned.

Re: vRealize 6.01 - How do I specify a metric unit in a Resource Interaction XML file ?

Hello,

Sadly, this doesn't seem to work as intended right now.

When you use, for example, total memory for a whole cluster, data given is in KB (let's take and example : 1 024 000 000 KB).

When you ask for it to be shown in TB, it shows.... 1 024 000 000 TB (which is cool, my cluster is now godly).

Problems aren't only here, when you use supermetrics, sometimes you can't even show a unit, plain and simple. You can try to put what you want, it won't print it.

To make it short : there is a bug imho here, I have several open cases with VMware and this is one of them (not the most painful one by a long shot), easy to workaround, just create a supermetric that explains the unit in the label, end of story. For exemple, when you need to show GB in place of KB, just do a /pow(1024,2) and trick is done. Just name your supermetric with the resulting unit or nested supermetrics can become a nightmare to maintain.

Sad but true...

vRealize Operations VOA Reports not displaying after import

Has anyone had any problems installing the VOA vRealize reports PAK? I have installed these successfully in the Hands On Labs and this works fine, when I try and import in to my vRealize environment running VMware vSphere with Operations Management Enterprise Plus for vRealize Operations, it imports and uploads fine with no errors but none of the VOA reports are listed. I have followed the full and updated instructions along with the latest VOA_Reports-FINAL-v3.pak but no matter what I try it just does not appear? I have also tried the earlier PAK versions but they still do not appear. I am running vRealize Version 6.0.1.2523163 Build 2523163

Infrastructure Navigator / Hyperic Dashboards keep disappearing

I have installed the VROPs (VA) virtual appliance (version Version 6.0.2.2777062), Hyperic 5.84 VA and the vCenter Infrastructure Navigator (VIN) 5.8.4.207 VA.  I have also installed the following management PAK's:

vmware-MPforVIN-6.0.1-2563832.pak

vmware-vcops-5.7.1-MPforHyperic-5.8-1521651.pak

I then configured them in Solutions and all was well for a short while.   The dashboards for VIN and Hyperic were showing up.   I then added some hyperic agents to some Windows servers and noticed shortly after that my Dashboards for VIN and Hyperic were missing.   I have re-registered the adapters to no avail.

I removed the configuration for all the adapters, redeployed them and then reconfigured them.  Still no go.

I have been searching for answers for about 3 hours now and can find nothing of help.

You have only 1 (one) datapoint. vROps is practically not usable with 1 datapoint, you need to gather some more data.

It thinks the current memory is 0KB, which should go away if all is good on the environment abd become the real value.

I guess you have that already, what's the current state?

Re: disable user authentication via vCenter Credentials

disable *all* users or what?

as far as I remember, there is a permission role in vCenter that allows that; it's assigned by default to vSphere administrator once you register vrops to the VC.

for the rest VC users, this should be controllable from the vrops users/groups configuration page

but you can't remove the vCenter name from the login combo at this point

vRealize Operations 6.0.1 graph views

I am trying to create a view in vRealize Operations 6.0.1  The view I want is the trend presentation, to show historical performance on a specific metric.  Creating the view was easy enough, but now I would like to apply it to a subset of VMs of my own choosing.  I tried to create a custom group to include 2 VMs, which worked , but then the view I created does not seem to apply to custom groups, only individual virtual machines.  Is there a better way?
