oh~

I Change my License from "VMware vSphere with Operations Management Enterprise Plus for vRealize Operations" To "vRealize Operations Management Suite 6 Enterprise Edition for vRealize Operations", Then Can Use Create & Edit Report & dashboards!

VMware vSphere with Operations Management Enterprise Plus for vRealize Operations = vRealize Operations Standard, So no support Customizable dashboards and reports.

Thank you,

Vincent Huang

Vrops Rest API and average over a time period

Bit of background

We are using vrops for are automation (Ansible) placement and part of that is the datastore to deploy onto. We currently are looking at the remaining capacity stat and if the VM being deployed to that datastore is equal to or greater than the remaining then skip and check the next and so on. Now that worked ok in the past because we were limited to 2tb datastores ( dont ask). We are now moving to NFS (netapp) mounts which are all thin disks and also 25tb is size.

My concern is that we can use that simple method anymore and need to take into consideration other metrics like latency and IO etc.

So my thinking is use the rest calls into vrops to get an average over x period for latency etc.

Has anyone dont anything like this, can this be done and any advice if there is a better way to do it.

I just tried this with the local admin user and works fine for me. All i did was change the password and the vrops web address.

Custom Profile Bug

Running 6.6.1

We have 30 custom profiles that i created but looking at them from administration-configuration-custom profiles i can only see the first 20. It seems to be a bug where it wont show me the second page. Or atleast does not know anything about a second page. ( says there are 20 out of 20 items and the search and sort is limited to the 20 on the page

If i go to custom profiles section in the policy i can see 20 of 30 items and the second page.

Has anyone noticed this or is it just me. Look at the bottom right of both screen shots

Looks like a bug in the Clarity UI, which isn't surprising given this is the first release featuring it. Did you check release notes to see if it has been acknowledged? If not, you may want to open an SR just to make sure it gets some attention.

Getting more error info for Outbound REST POST call

$

Howdy folks,

I'm brand new to vmware so please be patient if some of my vocabulary is incorrect. I'll try to be as clear as possible.

What I'm trying to accomplish is creating a record in ServiceNow (our company's ticketing platform) when an alert is generated. Somebody else configured that, and they ended up giving me access to the outbound settings of vRealize Operations Manager (in the administration area). When I edit this Outbound Instance, I'm given the options defined here:

Add a REST Plug-In for vRealize Operations Manager Outbound Alerts

I fill in the info with an account that has credentials in ServiceNow, a URL that SeviceNow is listening on (SN expects the alertID param in the POST call), and then I click "TEST". I'm presented with the following error:

This is not enough information for me to work with. I've sent Powershell REST calls using the same URL (with a fabricated alertID) and credentials, and I've gotten my 201 response code (aka successfully posting). Is there any way for me to capture the response code and body that my Outbound Instance is receiving? Alternatively, is there any way for me to capture the REST call it's attempting to send before it gets to ServiceNow?

If there's any additional information I can provide, please let me know.

This appears to be a vROps question and not a vRA question. That said, you can check the logs under Administration (don't remember which file) to see if it built the REST call and why it failed.

Tip: Configuring outbound plug-ins to send localized contents

Hi,

In vROps 6.6.1, outbound plug-ins do not send localized contents by default.

But they will send localized contents if the vmware-vcops service is running in specific locale.

To configure a locale of vmware-vcops service In vROps VA, add $LANG environment variable to /etc/profile.d/vcops.sh.

    # echo "export LANG=[your locale name here]" >> /etc/profile.d/vcops.sh

    (*restart required)

I don't know if it's supported but worked like a champ for me.

Thank you.

We found this to be a bug in vrops. When we are testing our outbound rest settings we also get failures the same as this but it was posting the test event on our system. We didn't trouble shoot locally on vrops as it was posting to our endpoint.

Our setup is different than yours but ends up creating tickets in service now

Re: NFS Mount Path

I installed the MPSD and it shows me the NFS mounts which is great

Looking at the NFS dashboards i see a couple of mounts are yellow due to latency ( NFS component Heatmap). It seems to be using derived statistics|inferred latency. Now jumping to the NFS component Usage dashboard and looking at the NFS Read & write Latency widgets i would have expected to see my NFS at the top of the list but is is not. I noticed that these widget use different latency metrics.

I have looked and as normal cant find any info on what they mean and so dont know what ones i need to worry about.

Can anyone explain want derived statistics|inferred latency is and how it is calculated also should i use it over the read and wright latencies or a combination of the two
