Re: Edit report owned and scheduled by other user

Hi eric.

Been there, done that. In my opinion that's a big product flaw. The only way to "steal it" is asking to the user to export it's content. Otherwise, a non so nice resolution would be to remove the user temporarily so the content become orphaned. You own it, remove it and then you can enable the user again.

Sorry for that "workaround" but that worked for me.

Hope vROps product owners find a way in newer versions.

Regards

Hi RickVerstegen. Thanks for putting this together. I gave it a go yesterday but i couldnt get any information to be displayed. I noticed you tried this on 7.5 while i am running 8.1. Im also using the standard addition of vRops. Do you think this could make a difference?

Hi abugeja

For 8.1 you need to use a different property when creating the custom groups for the different operating systems.

In 8.1 you should use the property “Guest OS from vCenter”. For earlier versions you can use property “Guest Full Name”

"The node is not in a state suitable for configuration, check logs for details" after express deployment of vRealize Operations Manager 8.1

Today I tried to deploy vRealize Operations Manager 8.1 in my lab.

However, after deployment, when I visit the VM in the webbrowser to do the Express Installation and set up a admin password, after a while on sitting on that it prepares for first-use, this comes up:

I have no clue why it does this. What log files should I check and post here?

After some more troubleshooting I found out that the issue was that the ESXi host did not have its time set correctly.

The time on the ESXi host was 5 years and some change behind the current time, which caused it. I've let it sync with NTP and now it deploys just fine.

vROPS Management Pack

Dear Experts,

Need your help - I am new to learning vROPS  and may be this question is very basic. I was looking at the  vROPS management packs - seems the SDDC Health Management pack exists but shows the status "Non Configured" - so I assume the management pack is installed but is not configured. The question I have is the alerts definitions ( for example - vCenter server is down )  under the SDDC Health Management pack - will be triggered in case the SDDC Health management pack status is "None Configured".

Many thanks in advance for the advice.

Cheers

Re: Vrealize Operation manager 7.0 Error synchronizing user information with ad/ldap

Did you find a solution for this? I am also getting this alert. I have been to Administration...Access..Authentication Sources, edited the Authentication Source for Active Directory, clicked the Test button and it failed. I did not have Use SSL/TLS selected so I have now selected this and when I Test it it displays details about the certificate on the Domain Controller, asks me to Accept it and then confirms that the "Test connection was successful". But I still get this alert every 30 minutes.

Do I need to add the certificate from the domain controller or the signing CA's certificate to a trust store on the vRealize Operations appliance somewhere?

vCenter Adapter - Collection State: Not Collecting

Hi,

how to troubleshoot what is going on with the collection? I have 12 hosts and for a half of them the collection state is in "Not Collecting" state. All of them are in the same L2/L3 network.

vROps version is 8.0.0.14857692.

Thx

Hi,

a Management Pack adds i.a. new alert definitions but if an appropriate adapter is not configured properly (account, fqdn, credentials) and new alerts definitions are not added to active policy, then they won't be triggered.

Hi,

When we install SDDC MP, it should automatically create adapter instances as per the number of nodes in the vROPs cluster. Please confirm the version of vROPs you are using and also the version of SDDC MP.

Limit user access to metrics

I hope you are all keeping well during this crazy time.

I am creating a performance dashboard and have the usual widgets with the most requested metrics in them. What i want to do now is add a metric picker that has an interaction with a metric chart widget. This bit is all good but the problem i have is the people this dashboard is for just about understand what cpu usage is and the metric picker has alllllll the metrics that you can possibility have for a virtual machine.

Is there a way to limit the number of metrics that a metric picker can display to remove 95% of them from view?

The best way to try and "Fix" it is to stop and start the collection of the adapter the hosts belong to.

To troubleshoot it is look at the collector logs under administration, support, logs. and select the node that the adapter is collecting from ( you can see this from the adapters section. Other wise log a GSS call

We had the same issue after upgrading our first host in a cluster from 6.5 u1 to 6.5 u3.   We tried several of the things mentioned here, but in the end I had to call support.  They found out that the issue was with vCenter and it had an issue sending the license file to the host. The fix was to SSH into Vcenter (We have Linux Appliance) then run the following command.

  1. From SSH Run this Command: /usr/lib/vmware-vmdir/bin/vdcadmintool
  2. Selection Option 6 to get VMDIR State  (our State was set to "readon"  which indicated that i was not working.  The correct state should be "Normal"
  3. Run the command again:  /usr/lib/vmware-vmdir/bin/vdcadmintool
  4. Select Option 5 to Set the State and set to Normal
  5. Attempt to Connect Host to vCenter Again.

Can we update/modify the vROps databse?

$

Hi,

We have a requirement where we want to get the historical data of one resource kind and push it as the historical data of another resource kind.

For example:

Resource kind A: Belongs to Management Pack X and has some metrics and properties for which the data is being collected in vROps for the last 2 months.

Resource kind B: Belongs to Management Pack Y and has the same set of metrics and properties as Resource kind A, and it is newly started collecting the data.

So, we wanted to get the data of Resource Kind A for the last 2 months and push it as the historical data of Resource Kind B.

The logical solution we thought to try out is to modify/update the vROps database through some script. So, practically is this possible to update/modify the vROps database?

If not, then is there any way to achieve this requirement?

Any help on this issue is appreciated.

Thanks,

-Nitesh

Monitor vSAN network latency

Hello there

The mission is to monitor vSAN network latency between the vSAN hosts. I've checked on Operations Manager 8.0 in my lab, there is not any symptom or definition which is about monitoring vSAN network. Does anyone try to do this before? Or there may be some thinkings for me so I have the direction to try to get the goal, thanks.

List VMs by VMDK "Disk Mode"

Searching for way to report the disk mode (dependent, independent-persistent, independent-nonpersistent) of VMDKs on VMs. I'm not finding a property for this.

I've been asked for a report listing all VMs that are not exclusively utilizing dependent disks.

vROps 8.0.1 and Actions

The 'Actions' available for any object have an option to 'Open <object> in vSphere Web Client.' How can this option be changed to open the object in the H5 client? Is it dependent on the target vCenter version?
