I would have thought that there would be a built in symptom for this but there isn't (only for real snapshots which would usually work for this issue but I know of times when consolidation is needed but there are actually no snapshots.)

What about using the Virtual Machine Metric: "Waste % > 0" I do not know if this will work but worth a try?

Because it's not a vSphere alarm (Instead a "Summary: Configuration issue") I can kind of see why this didn't make it into vROps - but it should be!

 

I would be interested to see if there is actually a snapshot file associated with this VM, I suspect there is nothing in snapshot manager,  but do you see any on the VM folder on the datastore?

One more query. It's related to vROps Agent configuration where vROps is spread across 2 sites.

My question is where do I point the vROps Analystics Cluster Nodes? For example, I have a vROps Cluster deployed across Sites 1 & 2. Do I point each vROps node to the Log Insight Cluster at the same site?

Design
Site 1 - Log Insight Cluster 1, vROps Master Node, Master Replica, Data Nodes, Remote Collector 1
Site 2 - Log Insight Cluster 2, Remote Collector 2

So from the design above, would it look like the following?

Point to Log Insight at Site 1: vROps Master Node, Master Replica, Data Nodes, Remote Collector 1
Point to Log Insight at Site 1:  Remote Collector 2

vROPS 6.6 Reports with No Data

We are using vROPS 6.6 and when generating VOA assessment reports it's blank with "no data" however on the dashboard all the datas are available.

Any known issues with vROPS 6.6 version ??

The report configuration is probably either inaccurate or the subject isn't valid. Without seeing your report it's impossible to know.

Your remote collector, although in Site 2, belongs to the deployment hosted in Site 1. Therefore, I'd point the log stream of that collector to the vRLI cluster in Site 1.

none of the reports in the vROPS is working and I have also tried the VOA custom reports  and the results are the same.

vRealize 6.6 - VOA

I have installed vrealize operations virtual appliance 6.6 and configured the evaluation licenses and run this appliance for 2 weeks. after two weeks when I went and pull the default reports as well as VOA reports(phase 1, phase 2 ,phase 3, and phase 4 ) the reports either in pdf/xls doesn't have any data... How can I resolve this??? kindly advise

When you run the reports are you running them against the correct object type. For example when generating the report, run them against your vCenter Server instance?

 

Also, I have seen this before but not for VOA specifically, the workaround was to reboot the vROps instance(s)

Your suggestion about running the cmd as admin has helped which was an over sight on my part. I am finding some instances are needing to be fully re-installed so something must have gotten hung up during install. Our initial push was done through SCCM so that might have something to do with some of the issues.

You are correct; we see this problem when consolidation is needed but no snapshots are actually present. This happens occasionally after nightly backups (CommVault). Right now; the only report method we have is a storage administrator notifying us (server administrators) that a nightly backup failed; a report is generated by the backup software and then we investigate vCenter to remediate each individual server.

 

I will try your recommendation, Virtual Machine Metric: "Waste % > 0", the next time we have a machine that requires the consolidation. There aren't any currently in our environment.

Is it possible to have multiple dashboards as navigation targets from the same Widget?

Hi,

 

I'm using the Object Relationship widget in a dashboard and would like to have several dashboards set up as dashboard navigation targets.

I would like to select an ESXi host in the relationship widget and navigate to a specific Host troubleshooting dashboard and use the selected host as object input.

In another scenario I would like to select a datastore in the same relationship widget and navigate to a specific datastore troubleshooting dashboard and use the selected datastore as object input.

 

It works fine now, but only with a singel target dashboard.

 

Is it possible with multiple dashboard targets from the same widget?

If not,- will this be available in the upcoming 6.7 release?

As far as i know it is a one to one relationship. That said you can have several object lists going to several different dashboards

 

ESXi hosts widget > ESXi host troubleshooting dashboard

 

when you select the esxi host a second widget shows you the datastores

 

datastores widget > datastore troubleshooting dashboard

 

etc

 

As for 6.7 no idea

As the doc states this can be anything

 

If (in our case) you have more than one vrops cluster this enables you to distinguish between the two when doing your quarries other wise both clusters would return results. Just put a meaningful name in this field that represents your cluster.

 

If you have a 4 node cluster then put the same value in for each node

I get the same thing for the HDS MP. I have all the alerts disabled but i still get alerted even after a cluster reboot. I have a 7 node cluster

Had this with Cisco, open pak with 7zip and remove cert files from it. Save the pak and upload it again. Now instead of saying that it's unsigned it will prompt with something like "it cannot be validated" but will allow you to continue despite the error

This is a Large node, with 8 Master/Data nodes. We are not using the Master Replica. There are 4 Remote Collectors as well.

 

The only thing I have found is when the alert shows up, that object (VM) has just been created. Most of the alerts cancel within the same timeframe, some stay for 10-15 mins.

I was thinking this was the issue because of the Dev work being down, tearing down VMs.

 

But I would think the alert should not even process if the policies were working correctly.

That is different ( or could be)

 

When a new object is added it is put into the default policy because there is no data available to execute the group membership rules. It will stay there until a couple of collections are completed. Once the collections are completed the VM will then be able to be moved into the correct policy based on the membership rules now having data available to enforce them.

 

If your default policy has the alerts enabled then they will alert as soon as the first collection is complete and will cancel when the membership rules are executed and the vms are moved into the correct group and get the correct policy.

 

The same thing will happen when a cluster is rebooted. All objects will be placed into the default policy for unto 20 mins until the group membership is worked out.

 

The reboot part will be fixed in 6.7 i have been told
