Re: vROPs - Report to show new VMs created

You would think this would be a obvious report they should include in vROPS. I need it also.

That does in deed make sense. I was thinking of setting that alert to disabled in the Default Policy and enable it in all other policies, as those policies are nested under the Default Policy.

When looking at that, I don't think that will viable as I have objects that use the Default Policy and we do indeed need alerts on those objects.

I will continue to look and see if I can create new groups/policies so I can attempt to get this to work how we want it to work.

Update:

I will go ahead and mark sxnxr's reply as correct as I do not see a way around this as of right now. I will need to take a look at re-working the policies/groups, which would take a lot of time.

Thanks for the information and help!!

vROPs 6.6

Hi

I have one master node and 3 data nodes and remote collector. Cluster is not in vROPs HA

Can I remove Data nodes and remote collector nodes from existing vRops master node and add to new master node?

Is this possible?

Any chances of having corruption of config and data during this activity?

Please suggest ?

You can't remove data nodes once they're established in the system. Data nodes store, well, data, and that data is unique.

Is it possible to reset the dashboard ordering and their locations to default? The last admin moved everything around. I would like to get reset it to defaults.

Re: vROPS 6.6.1 with Horizon View Adapter 6.4.0

After the recommendation of my TAM, I updated my vrops module view to the latest one (guess it is 6.5.x) to resolve this problem, but the results still differs from vROPS and helpDesk inside Horizon View.

And yes we are using non persistent desktops because the main client usage is by default office, browser, email, nothing special. On a security perspective it is really helpful not store any data on the client itself, because after logoff the client is deleted and a new one is going to be created. User specified data (roaming) are redirected to a share by gpo.

With this mechnism we avoid a lot of attack vectors from outside by browsing or more simple: cloaked clients by time and usage.

Hope that was not too weird especiallly with my limited english language skills :-)

vROps reference architecture port tables question

i understand from tables 8.3 & 8.4 from the attached pdf snip that those ports are required for remote collection but how do they relate to table 8.5?

Analytics cluster can have data, Master & replica nodes (all 3 aka analytics nodes)

tables 8.3 & 8.4 would be for a firewall separating 2 domains with remote collector in domain #2 separated by the firewall & analytics node(s) in domain #1

so then table 8.5 applies only within the analytics domain #1 or is table 8.5 also required to open those ports between the 2 domains?

the use of data nodes in 8.3/8.4 seems clear but i do not understand how analytics nodes was used instead for 8.5 unless it refers to a VIP?

a VIP is not mentioned there so can anyone provide insight (excuse the vPun) on these tables

Hi,

I've experienced policy inhertiance and alert disabling issues since the vCOps 5x days.

In the past, taking the cluster offline, reboot and online would fix the issue most of the times.

I have installed vROps 6.61 Hotfix9 and it seems like the issue is finally gone :-)

The Hotfix must be requested from GSS or you can wait for the next release.

I to have to apply HF9 as i am having alarms triggering when they are disabled in the policy. From what i have been told is that there are 17 fixes in it. I am waiting to get a lest of them.

I also have HF9 but in my case I was needing it to resolve a licensing issue and no mention was ever made that it might include fixes for the policy issues described. I was still instructed that I may need to take the cluster offline/online but that may have just been as a precaution. I will say that I have heard that vRealize Operations Manager 6.7 may be out middle of next month and it will include allot of changes especially improvements to workload balance I believe.

How to make a custom group based on a regular expression?

Hi,

I have a case were I'm trying to group and make alerts on VMs that run in the wrong datacenter.

We have two datacenters and we want to make compliance alerts on a group of VMs.

Our VMs have a common naming model with a sequence number at the end.

VMs with odd sequence numbers shall run in datacenter 1 and VMs with even sequence number shall run in datacenter 2.

Our ESXi hosts have a specific number in their naming conventing that tells us the site. Eg. pse1.... & pse2...

To group the VMs I want to compare the VM sequence number with the site number on the ESXi host.

If a VM with an odd sequence number runs on an ESXi host with "2" as the site number, the VM becomes a member of the Custom group and gets a Compliance alert.

If a VM with an even sequence number runs on an ESXi host with "1" as the site number, the VM also becomes a member of the Custom group and gets a Compliance alert.

In vROps it seems like you only can use a regular expression to create symptoms, but not in a custom group.

How can I make a custom group and an alert that are able to include VMs with odd and even numbers in their names and compare them with the parent host name?

Log Insight Agent Install

Is the Log Insight Agent installation required for Appliances that already have an liagent.ini file? I know it is required for Windows VM's but I'm not sure what benefits the agent installer has over the default liagent.ini file.

If you see a liagent.ini file, then the agent *is* installed, even on appliances.

Log Insight Agent Install on VCSA 6.5?

Is the Log Insight Agent install supported onto vCSA 6.5? I am finding conflicting information. I am running Log Insight Agent Version 4.5.0-5654101 and vCSA 6.5 U1.

This thread indicates it is not supported;
https://communities.vmware.com/thread/558614

"So the content pack is correct and so is the agent config note. I was too quick to reply. The content pack supports vSphere 6.5 but log insight agent cannot be installed on vCenter 6.5 (which is based on photon OS) and hence the agent config cannot be used for vSphere 6.5. Hope this helps."

Whereas this blog seems to indicate installing Linux RPM on VCSA 6.5 has no issues.

Thanks. It looks as though VCSA 6.5 does not contain liagent.ini.

There is a difference between "works" and "supported". Yes to the former and no to the latter unless you get an RPQ from VMware.

Hi,

I am trying to unregister/uninstall the plugin from VRO(Orchestrator control center).

I tried from UI and did not get any option to uninstall plugin.

I found option to disable the plugin.

Is there a way to uninstall/unregister the plugin using REST API?

Thanks

shyam

You can just remove the plug-in from the file system and cycle vco-server.
